Training & Development

Introduction

It is Company policy to ensure that all employees receive the necessary training to enable them to safely and effectively perform their job function. In addition, training activities will be carried out to enhance employees’ contribution to the Company’s business, and development opportunities will be offered to individuals to enhance their skills, knowledge and experience. All training and development activities will be in accordance with the provisions of the Equality and Dignity at Work policies.

Policy objectives

Training and development requirements will be identified with individuals through discussion with their manager, perhaps through appraisal meetings, and if appropriate, by the manager recognising any training needs.

The Company is committed to delivering training of the highest possible quality within the resources available.

The Company is also committed to continuous development. It seeks to create a learning environment where employees will be prepared to accept change and develop new skills.

This represents an essential investment by the Company in its own future, particularly at a time of rapid and constant change, which demands a skilled and flexible workforce to provide quality services and products. To this end the Company undertakes to: –

  • Provide induction training
  • Provide information, instruction and training to ensure the health and safety of all its employees
  • Provide general training necessary for staff to work effectively
  • Provide training and development for employees to enable them to acquire nationally recognised qualifications where it can be established that this is of benefit both to the individual and the Company
  • Provide professional and occupational updating to ensure that employees are up to date with current developments in their particular field

In certain circumstances, the Company may request that individuals sign a ‘learning agreement’ before commencing a programme of study which would require the individual to repay all or part of the cost of the course if they decide to leave the Company’s employment either during, or within a set time limit of finishing, the course. This will normally only apply to professional or academic qualifications where attainment of the qualification is likely to significantly enhance the employee’s immediate marketability.
